Blog Post #6
Yes, I believe readicide is a problem in EVERY school. This
is because all schools and teachers ruin any book they have their class read
and force everyone to do assignments that ask you to think about things in the
book that you would normally not even consider and just pass on as if it was
just a normal sentence. I do think that genre fiction is “worthy” because it is
more likely to be interesting to most people in the class than some literary
book that appeals to an eighty year-old librarian who is from the 1930’s and
has a completely different taste than people of THIS generation have. So yes, I
do believe that genre fiction is “worthy”, I also believe that it is even more
worthy than some of these “classics” that people actually consider good,
because they are not, they are long, boring, complicated books that suck the
very life out of the reader.
No
school should teach literary fiction as a class book because, it combines an
incredibly boring book with “activities” that are also incredibly boring and
nearly purposeless themselves. Not only do you have to do these at your own
pace, you have to do them for long, drawn out periods of time that could last
even for months which is triple the amount of time that actually reading the book
would take. This almost always leaves you absolutely despising the book.
Most
literary fiction books tend to be plotted into the past, and involve events
that a good fraction of people already know how they end, not accomplishing the
whole purpose of a story which is to either educate or to entertain, mostly the
latter than the former. Any chance
anyone would get to switch out a literary fiction book for a genre fiction book
should jump for it. To a point. I’m not asking for literary fiction books to go
extinct, I’m asking that the truly good books get the credit that they deserve.

I am Number Four IF IT WAS A MOVIE post
If someone wanted to film I am Number Four they would have trouble getting the battle at the end of the book to even look somewhat realistic. This is because there are several GIANT (Giant as in 30-40 foot tall) lizards that attack and destroy a school and of course that part would have to be animated and there simply is not that many good, cheap animation programs that would make it look super realistic.
Three scenes that I think MUST be included into the movie would be a short scene of the battle of Lorien that ended up destroying their home and forcing numbers 1-9 to retreat to earth and hide in plain sight, the scene would be like a preview. Another scene would be the scene where number four discovers his telekinesis, this is an important scene because he finds a legacy that he would use in the rest of the story multiple times. The most important scene that absolutely, positively MUST be included in the movie is the final battle at the school that number four and six defeat a large battalion of Mogadorians and find safety for a while.
Two scenes that should be trashed are most likely the scene where number four is training in his backyard and playing with fire, tree trunks and spears, this is because nothing major is gained from this scene, and nothing much exciting happens, either. Another scene that the book could do without is the scene where number three is killed by the Mogadorians, this scene can be done without because even though number three is/was significant to the storyline, he added no importance to the story other than put alot of excitement into the first few chapters.

Book 1 Project (IDDES)
Miss House of Hades??? Wish you could get a little more? Now you can with the new Illusional Doors of Death Elevator Set (IDDES)! With IDDES, you can now install your very own Doors of Death in your house, and along with the real-life elevator that really works, IDDES is camouflaged in paint, stickers, and crayons to make it look like it is just a pair of doors that has no elevator inside of them! This is the best of all of the House of Hades memorabilia!
IDDES ties into House of Hades because the Doors of Death were something that released all of the monsters that had died earlier in their existence faster than just waiting for them to rejuvenate their bodies and be able to fight again. The Doors of Death provided the villain, Gaea, an excellent advantage over source of troops and fighters for her side. These doors were almost impossible to close due to the requirement that they need to be closed on both sides with one being in Tartarus and the other in the House of Hades, and that they are guarded by a huge amount of monsters on both sides. This is shown because Bob, the former Titan Iapetus, has to push a button and defent the elevators until Percy and Annabeth get to the other side. He also had a skeleton-cat to help him, as shown when he said,"I also have a good cat".
Another catch to IDDES, like the actual Doors of Death in House of Hades, IDDES can only be operated by pressing the button that has the direction you wish to go on both sides of the elevator, the second one being which floor you wish to go. This, sadly, makes it impossible to travel IDDES without at least two other people (or one person on the other side and duct tape keeping the other button pressed down.) The importance of the Doors of Death in House of Hades was disproportionate, if they were not closed/released then all monsters killed would in a few days’ time, be able to come back and fight the exact same person or thing that was responsible for their short death. This would be big because everyone would die eventually, be it because they were killed by a monster or by some other means, they would die and the opposing troops to Gaea would eventually die out. Then Gaea would be able to do whatever she wished with the world.
If you ever have trouble installing IDDES, you can call our toll-free number for our advice on what you are having trouble with at 123-456-7890. If that doesn't help, then we will send you your very own GIANT. GIANT is a giant humanoid with scaly legs and a large smokescreen of black smoke that surrounds it that constantly snuffs out fire when it gets too close. GIANT has also been trained to assist you in the IDDES installation process. After that GIANT is also trained to push the button for you after magically teleporting to the location you wish to go. Also GIANT is trained to do a lot of other things for you like managing the elevator, guarding the elevator, yelling at people who come too close to the elevator, and finally, helping you out of the elevator
GIANT is relevant to House of Hades because he is one of the eleven giant-sons of Gaea that were made for the specific purpose of killing the god that the were made to be the exact opposite of (confusing right?). Basically, a giant would be the exact opposite of the god they were meant to kill. The giant for the war god would be peaceful, or the giant for the sky god would be ground-based. GIANT is based on the giant who was meant to oppose Hecate, the goddess of magic. That is why GIANT has a smokescreen around him, he is the antimagic.
If you order now, you will only be charged with 40 easy payments of $39.99! Call this number if you want to buy IDDES! 583-284-2958. ORDER NOW!

Book 1: House of Hades
Recently I finished my first book for the trimester. The ending came as a surprise to me because I had expected it to go all the was to 670 pages, but I had forgotten the pages needed for the end of the book for definitions, conclusions, previews, etc. Because of this, the book ended early for me and now I have to wait a year for the final installment of the series to come out. I liked how the book did not end on a massive cliffhanger like the last one did, but that also means that I must complain about how there is no hype for the next book. I really disliked how the author did not just finish the series in the same book, I had thought that this book was the last, because the climax wasn't really that climax-y.
Post 2: What is a book?
A book is a portal. As in a portal to another world and the author is the
creator of that world and you are somehow a spectator of that specific world as
time goes by. Books possess traits that involve how the story is built and what
type the story then becomes. Sometimes when I think about these traits specific
images pop into my mind. Seething would be like pushing your tongue through
your teeth and the little bits that go through the little holes that are still
in-between your teeth. I imagine happy is like speaking really loudly on the
'a' and only the 'a'. In his "Scribble" piece, Victor LaValle, argues
that books as an object are none too special as a being. It is the idea that
they are there, and that someone spend almost a whole year writing all they can
into the book, and putting all of their ideas into the writing to make it as
fun and interesting as it can be for the reader.
In my opinion, a hardback book is something a little less casual than the paperback book because the image of someone folding the cover back on a paperback book so that only one page appears forces the image into my mind that they are only casually reading the book as a pastime. If I try to imagine someone reading a hardback book, I tend to think that the reader is reading that book in a series and it is the next installment, or the book is something they found and they really, really, really wanted to read. The hardback is something much different from an iPad or kindle (no iPhones here because they are too small to include, and, why would anyone read on a small 4x2" screen?) when I read on my iPad, I imagine it like an average-sized magazine that I can just casually read for an hour or so. I assume the kindle follows suit. The hardback book is something that is a lot more committed. If you read it, you are going to end up reading it for at least two hours.
It will be hard for someone to forget the different purposes that each type of book offers, I imagine that the e-books will just offer another dimension of book reading and offer things that books do not offer, but in turn books will offer plenty of things that e-books do not offer.

Why I read
I like to read because reading is a was to pass time if things are down or you want some entertainment. If you don't, however, read your favorite genre and read something you probrably won't like, you will not get the full enjoyment that reading other things does give you. Reading is mostly a last-ditch attempt to find something to do, especially when you come up with a case of cabinfever. Though sometimes some people are just not in the mood for reading a book, or looking at a magazine, they might want to read the newspaper, or write something. I read mostly fiction books, except for realistic fiction. It also just so happens to be that my least favorite genre is realistic fiction, and that I hate the boringness and feelings expressed in those stories. The reason fiction is my favorite is because the author has more room to make things more exciting, unlike history writers who have a single, unchangable storyline to follow. The same follows suit for realistic rfiction authors, who can make a story that probrably has not happened, but could happen which puts a tight leash on what the author can write. This is why I like to read.
